Meal Planning That Works

Have you tried a done-for-you meal plan only to end up $100 in the hole and frustrated because it was full of complicated recipes, required you to spend all day prepping, and you were still hungry?

That's the problem with meal planning, if someone else does it for you it's not your plan, but you're not sure where to start- or you just don't have the energy to do it.

I get it, that's why when I help clients meal plan we do it mindfully. The core concepts of mindful eating lend themselves to perfect meal planning every time. I mean, if you're going to put in the effort you might as well enjoy what you're eating- and if you want to reward yourself with a cookie you should!

These are the key features of mindful eating that are also excellent groundwork for meal plan success:

  1. Awareness: start where you are, know what your goals are and draw the line between them. That means that if hormone balance is your goal get to the root cause- possibly too many sugary treats in a day. Now what does balance look like? Having 1 treat a day but also having some whole grains. Your meal plan is what you do to make it happen- plan to eat whole wheat pasta.

  2. Pause: or in mindfulness we sometimes call this "breathe." Make space for actions that you need to take care of yourself- possibly putting together a week full of lunches ahead of time.

  3. Intention: it doesn't matter what the choice is, it's the reason for the choice that's key. If you want to eat chips and salsa- go ahead, but be perfectly clear on whether it's because you are hungry or bored.
